Spitting Venom

The Hennessesy Venom GT, making its final run at the 2011 Goodwood festival of speed….hold onto your package, this is awesome!!

John Hennessey from Hennessey performance, renowned for his hyper Viper conversions, made one of the ultimate American super cars this year. The Venom GT is based on a highly modified Lotus Exige chassis. The Venom GT is powered by General Motors’ 6.2 L (380 cu in) LS9 supercharged V8 that can be found in the Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1. The modified engine will produce up to 1,200 bhp (890 kW) with twin-turbocharged variants. The mid-engine V8 is mated to the rear wheels with a Ricardo plc 6-speed transmission. Hennessey claims that the car can achieve a top speed of 275 mph (440 km/h).

Marussia, the first Russian supercar

Marussia, the first Russian supercar

Marussia Motors was founded in 2007 by former musician, actor and racing driver
Nikolay Fomenko, strategist Efim Ostrovsky and technology entrepreneur Andrey
Cheglakov. They have release two super cars, aptly named, Marussia B1 and Marussia B2.

The Marussia B2 (pictured), is built on the same frame as it’s B1 predecessor but gets a specially built 3.5 liter Cosworth V6, ranging from 300 HP to 420 HP.Their gross vehicle weight is only 1100kg which gives speeds of 0-100 (km/h): 3,8 sec (420 hp).

As you can see these supercars are not that powerful but they are extremely light.

The design to me is clean, the interior design is less in keeping with the exterior design but you’ve got to hand it to them, of all exotic cars on the market, this one,  is pretty exotic.  Nostrovia

Aston Martin One-77; 7.3litres, 750bph and only 77 built

Aston Martin One-77; 7.3litres, 750bph and only 77 built

This car is not just engineering perfection, it is design perfection, from the angry grill to the 7.3 litre V12. To me, Aston Martin exudes elegance with a touch of beastliness, and damn! the One-77 is a beast!.

But before we dissect this beast, a bit of history on Aston Martin always give me a good perspective on the roots of the car.

Aston Martin was founded in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. The two had joined forces as Bamford & Martin the previous year to sell cars made by Singer from premises in Callow Street, London where they also serviced GWK and Calthorpe vehicles. Martin raced specials at Aston Hill near Aston Clinton, and the pair decided to make their own vehicles. The first car to be named Aston Martin was created by Martin by fitting a four-cylinder Coventry-Simplex engine to the chassis of a 1908 Isotta-Fraschini.

They acquired premises at Henniker Place in Kensington and produced their first car in March 1915. Production could not start because of the outbreak of World War I, and Martin joined the Admiralty and Bamford the Royal Army Service Corps.

The One-77 is aptly named because only 77 examples of Aston’s most bespoke model ever, will be produced. It features a full carbon fibre monocoque chassis, a handcrafted aluminium body, and a naturally aspirated 7.3 litre V12 engine with 750 hp (560 kW).

Aston Martin claims that this is the most powerful naturally aspirated production engine in the world when the car is delivered. The engine is mated to a new 6-speed gearbox that allows the One-77 to go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of over 200 mph (320kph). The projected weight is 1,500 kg (3,307 lb).

The official price of the One-77 is 1,050,000 pounds – which is $2,340,000 at the current exchange rate – plus local taxes.

The newly independent company – which was sold by Ford almost two years ago – wants to get the exclusive model into as many countries as possible to act as halo

cars, so fewer than 10 per cent have been earmarked for the big UK and US markets.

Although it will fall short of the Veyron, Aston Martin CEO Ulrich Bez said that he is not concerned about comparisons or his car’s performance figures.

Dr Bez has revealed that the car’s 7.0-litre V12 engine (a development of the 6.0-litre unit in the DB9 and DBS) will produce 700 horsepower (522kW) and about 700Nm of torque.

“It will have seven litres and 750 horsepower and it’s called One-77 – there are a lot of sevens in this – but Aston Martin is not about figures,” said Dr Bez.

One will need to see these videos whilst strapped into one’s chair.

Koenigsegg Agera the Swedish Supercar

Koenigsegg Agera the Swedish Supercar

Koenigsegg the swedish super car manufacturer had  humble beginnings. Christian von Koenigsegg (pronounced Konigseg) at the age of 22 created the Supercar of his dreams – the Koenigsegg CC, and launched his car company in 1994. His sole mission was to create the perfect Supercar.

The Koenigsegg CC prototype boasted a unique carbon body with a detachable roof. Despite very limited resources, the chassis, suspension, brakes, wishbones uprights and many other items where all custom designed for the car by Christian and his small team. The car was very original and got a lot of attention.

In order to test the waters, Christian decided to bring the Koenigsegg CC prototype to the Cannes Film Festival in 1997. The reaction to the car was amazing and the first international contacts were taken.

Just five years later, in 2002, Koenigsegg began series production of the very powerful and Guinness World Record-holding CC8S model.

In 2005, The Koenigsegg CCR became the fastest production car in the world, beating the nine year old Guinness World Record of the McLaren F1.

Today, Koenigsegg employs 50 full-time staff plus consultants. Everyone works under Christian’s direct guidance.Below is the Koenigsegg Agera the mid-engined sports car made by the Swedish car manufacturer in 2011. It is a successor to the Koenigsegg CCX/CCXR. The name Agera comes from the Swedish verb ‘agera’ which means “to act”.

The car is fitted with a 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

It does 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) in 3.1 seconds, 0-200 kph (124 mph) in 8.7 seconds.

Arrinera Venocara – Poland’s first super car

Arrinera Venocara – Poland’s first super car

It seems there are few emerging super car manufacturers coming our of the eastern bloc countries over the last seven years. Poland is one, as newly established super car manufacturer Arrinera Automotive will be released their first supercar prototype this year called the Arrinera Venocara.
The chassis was designed by British car designer Lee Noble and resembles the Lamborghini Gallardo in appearance. The Venocara production model will be launched in late 2013 and will be offered in the Middle East,Europe, China and the U.S.

The supercar is equipped with a massive eight-cylinder 6.2-Litre engine and yet is made of lightweight materials to ensure that its speed will not be compromised by the sheer size of it’s engine.

The chassis is also made of materials that are lightweight and has high resistance to deformation, ensuring the protection of the driver and passengers.  It uses a thermal imaging camera to scan the road several hundred meters ahead. The inside is outfitted in the same leather used by Maybach. Pricing will start at over US$150,000.

I think a few well established super car manufacturers will be waiting with
baited breath to how the market receives the first generation Arrinera.

Zenvo ST1 the first Danish supercar

Zenvo ST1 the first Danish supercar

Angy, Horny are the only two words that best describe this Danish supercharged, turbo charged, hyper car.

Zenvo Automotive was the first super car manufacturer out of Denmark, another boutique founded in 2004. and after five years of research and development went into production of the Zenvo ST1. It is a limited edition with only 15 cars to be built and sold to specially approved customers.

The car is 100% built in Denmark, From it’s impressive list of mechanical specifications to it’s striking pose the Zenvo ST1 is the result of clever danish design.

The Danish supercar rolled out three special edition ST1 models for the North American market, called the ’ST1 50S’. Despite the ultra limited number of this model, Zenvo has made sure that they’re worth every penny of the $1.8million customers shelled out for these three hypercars.

The ST1 50S comes in three different colors – Intense Red, Crystal White, and Mediterranean Blue – with a powertrain that has been improved from the standard ST1 model. The part about the engine is pretty huge considering that the ’base’ model already has a 7.0-liter supercharged V8 engine that produces 1,104 horsepower and 1,050 lb/ft of torque.

So if you have a cool $1-1.8million you too can have the following:
Max. torque 1430 Nm
Performance (kW/hp/min)810 Kw/ 1104hp
Top speed 375km/h
Acceleration 0–100 km/h in 3s
